Trump-endorsed candidate for Maryland governor beats current governor’s pick

Former President Donald Trump’s endorsed candidate for governor of Maryland defeated current governor Larry Hogan’s chosen candidate in the state’s primary on Tuesday, adding to Trump’s impressive primary record so far in getting his endorsed candidates on the ballot in November.

Delegate Dan Cox won over Kelly Schulz and will be the Republican candidate in November to succeed Hogan, a virulent never-Trumper who has loudly criticized him for years.

The Associated Press called the race for Cox at 11:20 p.m. with 68% of the vote counted, when Cox had 56% to Schultz’s 40%.

Schultz had served in Hogan’s administration in various roles including secretary of labor, licensing, and regulation, and secretary of commerce.

Trump praises Cox

Cox had been a delegate for the state, and is a lawyer and businessman.

“Wow! Trump Endorsed Dan Cox is doing really well tonight in seeking the Republican Gubernatorial Nomination in the Great State of Maryland,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Post before the race was called. “Not over yet, but RINO Larry Hogan’s Endorsement doesn’t seem to be working out so well for his heavily favored candidate. Next, I’d love to see Larry run for President.

He later posted, “Congratulations to Dan Cox. NBC Fake News just called the race, but in this case the reporting wasn’t Fake (for a change!)”

Trump’s record of electing endorsed candidates is currently 147-10, and his record is perfect in 22 states.

Trump’s influence

Many establishment Republicans are quietly hoping that Trump will fade away before 2024, but his endorsement record shows the extent of his continuing influence over the party.

Trump’s policies as president were nothing short of incredible, but some Republican and independent voters and establishment Republicans grew tired of his rude and attacking tweets against anyone who crossed him.

Unfortunately, the establishment has also been influenced by the media and Democrats who constantly attacked Trump and lied about him in an attempt to sway the public against him, even though there has not been any justification for doing so.

The powers that be have not stopped trying to smear Trump and make him look like a criminal, but so far he has been Teflon and their attacks have fallen right off of him.
