What happened on Friday night might end up being a defining moment in President Donald Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign — maybe even in the history of our country.
In an impassioned speech at Mount Rushmore on Friday night, President Trump condemned “far-left fascism” and encouraged Americans to stand “strong and proud.”
No way, nohow
The president spoke at Mount Rushmore, appearing beneath the monolithic sculpture of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, to celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July weekend. The location of this event, of course, was no accident.
In recent weeks, so-called protestors have been trying to tear apart our country in the name of systematic racism, which they claim to be evidenced by the death of George Floyd. Part of their destructive energy has been aimed at our historic statutes, many of which they have either attempted or succeeded in vandalizing and/or toppling.
So, what better place for the president to deliver a speech ahead of the Fourth of July weekend than Mount Rushmore?
“This monument will never be desecrated,” Trump declared. “These heroes will never be defaced. Their legacy will never, ever be destroyed. Their achievements will never be forgotten. And Mount Rushmore will stand forever as an eternal tribute to our forefathers and to our freedom.”
In his speech, the president held nothing back against the left, the more extreme of whom he referred to as far-left fascists whom he accused of trying to “overthrow the American Revolution.”
“There is a new far-left fascism that demands absolute allegiance,” Trump said. “If you do not speak its language, perform its rituals, recite its mantras, and follow its commandments, then you will be censored, banished, blacklisted, persecuted and punished. Not going to happen to us.”
Trump continued: “We only kneel to Almighty God. We will not be intimidated by bad, evil people. It will not happen.” This, clearly, was not only aimed at the far-left fascists but also all those athletes who, following ex-NFL star Colin Kaepernick, have knelt during the National Anthem and who have vowed to continue doing so in the future.
Time to rise up
President Trump urged Americans, who he said these far-left fascists consider to be “weak and soft and submissive,” to rise up and to demonstrate how “strong and proud” Americans truly are.
“From this night, and from this magnificent place, let us go forward united in our purpose and rededicated in our resolve. We will raise the next generation of American patriots,” Trump said.
This is the speech that, amid these turbulent times, Americans have been waiting to hear from the president. Watch the full speech below:
