President Donald Trump has had enough of the Democratic Party’s negligence.
In a memo Wednesday, the commander-in-chief threatened to cut off federal funding to “anarchist” cities that fail to maintain law and order, the New York Post reported.
“Anarchy, violence, and destruction”
The memo named New York City, Washington, D.C., Seattle, and Portland — all Democrat-run cities — for allowing left-wing riots to continue throughout the summer.
“My Administration will not allow Federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones,” the president wrote, according to the Post. “To ensure that Federal funds are neither unduly wasted nor spent in a manner that directly violates our Government’s promise to protect life, liberty, and property, it is imperative that the Federal Government review the use of Federal funds by jurisdictions that permit anarchy, violence, and destruction in America’s cities.”
Trump also called on all federal agencies to report to the White House Office of Management and Budget on funds that can be withheld, and, according to the Post, he directed Attorney General Bill Barr to identify “anarchist jurisdictions” that “permitted violence and the destruction of property to persist and have refused to undertake reasonable measures” to get the chaos under control.
Among other examples of negligence, Trump called out Seattle for allowing an “Autonomous Zone” of anarchists to carry on and New York City for trimming its police budget.
“As a result of these State and local government policies, persistent and outrageous acts of violence and destruction have continued unabated in many of America’s cities, such as Portland, Seattle, and New York,” Trump’s memo said, as the Post reported.
“He better have an army”
It all comes as President Trump champions a “law and order” theme on the campaign trail, after months of calling on Democratic leaders to crack down on rioters, looters, and vandals in their jurisdictions. Democrats have increasingly accused Trump of trying to “incite violence,” the Associated Press notes, even as politicians such as Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler have refused offers of federal help from the president.
As could be expected, Dems instantly snapped back at Trump’s memo, calling it an illegal political stunt and likening Trump to a tyrant. Wheeler, who recently had to leave his condo behind because of riots that have gone on for 100 days, said that President Trump “needs to wake up” in a statement with other mayors, according to Portland NBC affiliate KGW8.
Meanwhile, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) threatened the president, suggesting that he might die if he dares to visit his hometown of New York City ever again.
“He better have an army if he thinks he’s [going to] walk down the street in New York. New Yorkers don’t want to have anything to do with him,” Cuomo said, according to the New York Post.
Are Democrats at all interested in keeping Americans safe?
