Former President Donald Trump gave a surprising compliment to former President Barack Obama during a live event with Bill O’Reilly on Saturday, claiming, “I liked him.”
Trump also referred to Obama as “smart and sharp” during the conversation with the former Fox News host, yet said Obama’s administration caused great division in the nation.
The encouraging words were unexpected given Trump’s history of criticisms regarding his Democratic predecessor.
“While Trump had nothing pleasant to say about Pres Biden, whom he said he doesn’t know personally — he did compliment former Pres Barack Obama. The crowd booed at his name, but Trump followed with, ‘I liked him.’ He said Obama is ‘smart and sharp.’” https://t.co/zh4FR7iIjz

Trump in 2016
In 2016, Trump referred to Obama in harsh words.
“I think President Obama has been the most ignorant president in our history,” Trump said. “His views of the world, as he says, ‘don’t jive,’ and the world is a mess … He has been a disaster as a president,” according to the Washington Examiner.

“He will go down as one of the worst presidents in the history of our country, he is a mess,” Trump added.
Obama Sounds Off on Trump
Obama has been critical of Trump as well.
“He’s jealous of COVID’s media coverage. If he had been focused on COVID from the beginning, cases wouldn’t be reaching new record highs across the country this week,” Obama said while campaigning for then-presidential candidate Joe Biden in 2020.
Obama also recently slammed Trump over leaving the Paris climate agreement. “I wasn’t real happy about that.”

The criticisms will likely continue on both sides, but Trump’s positive words about a person he has often attacked came as a shock to many.
