Trump hints at upcoming campaign rally, possible path toward 2024 White House bid

Former President Donald Trump has made it clear on multiple occasions since leaving office in January that he is interested in a return to the political arena.

In the latest evidence of those ambitions, Trump revealed this week that he could host a campaign-style rally in the near future to energize his base.

“We’re thinking about doing one”

According to the New York Post, the former president’s comments on the matter came during an interview with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump.

In addition to leaving the door open for a comeback White House bid in 2024, the 45th president indicated that he wants his supporters to know there is “hope” despite the path down which President Joe Biden is currently taking the nation.

“Oh yeah sure, I think so,” Trump said of a forthcoming rally, according to the Post. “In fact, we’re thinking about doing one relatively soon just to let everybody know that there’s hope in the future.”

The appearance on Lara Trump’s podcast The Right View marked the former president’s first video interview since leaving office.

“We had the best southern border”

Trump faced widespread social media bans in the wake of a riot on Capitol Hill in January, but he has been increasingly more vocal in recent weeks as he provides hints about his plans and issues harsh criticism of the Biden administration’s policies. At the Conservative Political Action Conference in February, Trump even lashed out at the establishment wing of his own party, many members of which have shared their opposition to his rhetoric on issues like the results of November’s presidential election.

In his recent podcast appearance, he chastised his successor for lax immigration policies and focus on progressive social issues.

“We had the best southern border that we’ve ever had and in one day [Biden] said, ‘Everybody come up, and what’s going on now is something compared to what’s going to take place during the summer,” Trump claimed, according to the Daily Mail.

He went on to highlight the “outsider” status he believes will endear him to his loyal base.

That argument was only bolstered by the decisions of Facebook and Instagram to remove clips of the interview because they included remarks by the former president, as the New York Post reported separately.
