Trump hits back at FBI, says agents illegally seized his passport, privileged files

Ever the fighter, President Donald Trump is not letting the Democratic party control the narrative on last week’s unprecedented Mar-A-Lago raid.

A spokesperson for Trump said that the FBI took documents from Trump including passports with “no legal authority,” Breitbart reported.

“No legal authority”

A search warrant unsealed Friday indicated the feds seized a handwritten note, binders of photos, and some “classified” material, but the details of the raid and the government’s justification for the precedent-shattering event are still unclear.

Trump shared Monday that his passports were also taken, calling the seizure “Third World” and “an assault on a political opponent at a level never seen before in our Country.”

The feds also seized records protected by attorney-client privilege from Trump, who is facing a number of Democrat-led investigations.

Trump spokesman Taylor Budowich shared a screenshot of an e-mail from a DOJ source Monday admitting that Trump’s passports had been seized and would be returned. Budowich said that the DOJ has “items they have no legal authority to possess.”

“It is clear that from the seizure of picture books to passports to attorney-client privileged documents, this unprecedented and unnecessary raid has resulted in the DOJ BEING THE ONES in possession of items they have no legal authority to possess,” Budowich said.

Trump demands transparency

Although the public has yet to receive a clear explanation for the unprecedented raid, attorney general Merrick Garland and FBI director Christopher Wray have denounced skeptics who fear it signals a draconian crackdown on the Biden administration’s top political rival.

In the meanwhile, Trump has been the target of wild, unconfirmed speculation that he kept sensitive national security secrets, even information having to do with nuclear weapons, at his home.

With the political ramifications of the raid still unclear, Trump has taken the opportunity to play the role of unifier, calling for the national “temperature” to be lowered.

Trump has also called on Garland to unseal the affidavit behind the raid for the sake of transparency, but Garland wants to keep it hidden.

“In the interest of TRANSPARENCY, I call for the immediate release of the completely Unredacted Affidavit pertaining to this horrible and shocking BREAK-IN,” Trump said.
