Trump informed that he is a target of the January 6 grand jury investigation

 July 19, 2023

In a bombshell development, former President Donald Trump said this week that he expected to be arrested over the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

According to Fox News, Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post on Tuesday, stating he recently received a letter from Special Counsel Jack Smith.

Trump is the target of another grand jury investigation

"Deranged Jack Smith, prosecutor with Joe Biden's DOJ, sent a letter (again it was a Sunday night!) stating that I am the TARGET of the January 6th Grand Jury Investigation, and giving me a very short four days to report to the Grand Jury, which almost always means an arrest an indictment," the former president wrote.

"So now, Joe Biden’s Attorney General, Merrick Garland, who I turned down for the United States Supreme Court (in retrospect, based on his corrupt and unethical actions, a very wise decision!), together with Joe Biden’s Department of Injustice, have effectively issued a third indictment and arrest of Joe Biden’s NUMBER ONE POLITICAL OPPONENT, who is largely dominating him in the race for the Presidency," Trump added.

That information provoked a furious response from conservatives, including Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

"It's absolute bulls--t," Greene told a reporter when asked on Tuesday for her thoughts on Smith's letter. She went on to insists that criminal charges are "the only way the Democrats have to beat President Trump."

House Republican Conference chair slams "corrupt witch hunt"

New York Rep. Elise Stefanik serves as chair of the House Republican Conference, and she spoke up as well. Stefanik put out a statement slamming Smith's letter for being part of a "corrupt witch hunt."

Meanwhile, Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donalds complained of a double standard by noting how Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders was not punished after one of his supporters opened fire on Republican lawmakers in 2017.

House speaker says letter is an attempt to derail Trump's campaign

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy released a tweet of his own noting how "President Trump just increased his lead in the polls."

"So what does the Biden Administration do next? Weaponize government to go after President Biden’s number one opponent," McCarthy added.
