Trump blasts Biden’s border policies in statement on new migrant caravan: ‘This must be stopped’

Drawn in large part by President Joe Biden’s welcoming rhetoric and lax attitude toward border security, yet another migrant caravan is said to be headed north through Mexico toward the United States. And Biden’s predecessor isn’t letting him of the hook for it.

According to Fox News, former President Donald Trump said Wednesday that his own policies could have prevented something like this and declared that the caravan “must be stopped” before it reaches America’s southern border.

Trump decries new caravan

“I hope everyone is watching the MASSIVE Caravan pouring through Mexico and headed to our Country,” Trump said in a statement released through his Save America PAC. “This must be stopped before they reach our Border, or before.”

He went on: “Just nine months ago, we had the strongest Border in our Nation’s history. This should have never happened!”

Indeed, the former president worked hard over his four years in office to achieve historically low levels of illegal migration, only to see most of that success undone by his successor.

Now, the southern border is once again unsecured, according to many lawmakers there, and migration numbers have soared to historic heights over the course of this year, with no signs of slowing down.

Better organized, but moving slow

According to Fox, the new caravan referenced by Trump began its journey nearly a week ago from the Mexican border with Guatemala, and has been working its way slowly northward ever since.

But while this caravan appears to be better organized than prior efforts — participants had to register via an online portal — its movement has been slower than previous marches. Reports indicate the Mexican government has slowed its progress at times and banned the migrants from hitching rides on trucks and trains.

Nevertheless, and even as Mexican officials actively discourage the caravan, it has steadfastly continued toward the U.S. over the past five days.

Fox also reported that, according to organizers of the caravan, the group of migrants numbered around 2,000 at the start of the journey and has now swelled to around 4,000 strong, including hundreds of young children.
