MSNBC has once again provoked President Donald Trump, this time by hiring a frequent target of his Twitter ire as its latest on-air analyst.
The cable news network announced on Friday that it added Lisa Page to its lineup. The former FBI attorney known for her role in the investigation of alleged Russian collusion in the 2016 election will now be a national security and legal analyst for NBC News and MSNBC.
Background on Lisa Page
Page had been a member of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team during the investigation and entered the media spotlight following the release of her text communications with FBI agent Peter Strzok.
In addition to revealing details of their romantic affair, the messages also showed a political bias against Trump. Strzok was subsequently removed from Mueller’s team and Page returned to her position in the FBI.
Page filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice and the FBI arguing that the release of their messages was a violation of her right to privacy.
Despite an inspector general’s report finding that the Russia investigation was not politically motivated, many Trump allies believe the messages between Page and Strzok provided evidence of such a partisan influence.
The president has publicly mocked both individuals on multiple occasions, declaring them “lovers” and “dirty cops” on social media.
“A total disgrace”
Trump similarly reacted with a tweet to the news of Page’s newest gig.
You must be kidding??? This is a total disgrace! https://t.co/3QdaYCaiZS

CNN faced similar backlash last year when it announced the hire of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, another frequent foil for the president. He was pushed out of the administration on the eve of his planned retirement based on what the Justice Department would later call a lack of “candor, including under oath.”
Just days before the CNN announcement, Fox News confirmed it had added former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders to its lineup of contributors, earning some criticism in the other direction.
Instead of delivering unbiased news, the 24-hour news cycle has become dominated by talking heads expressing their own opinions. And for Trump’s high-profile foes, it seems the welcome mat is always out at MSNBC and CNN.
