New York Magazine reports that former President Donald Trump has already made the decision about whether or not to run again for the U.S. presidency in 2024, and it’s a go.
The magazine has an iron-clad source for this information, namely, the former president himself.
“Well, in my own mind, I’ve already made that decision, so nothing factors in anymore,” Trump told the magazine, insisting, “in my own mind, I’ve already made that decision.”
How do we know it’s a go?
Trump, in that quote, didn’t specify exactly what his 2024 decision is. But, he made that clarification with his next statement.
“I would say my big decision will be whether I go before or after [the midterms],” Trump said.
This comes as no surprise as Trump has been teasing another presidential bid for some time now. But, this is one of the most direct statements that he, himself, has made on the matter. Others close to him have made even more direct statements about Trump’s 2024 intentions, but this is the closest that Trump has come to making the official announcement.
Trump went on to explain to the magazine his current thought process on whether he ought to announce his 2024 bid now or after the midterm elections. It would appear that he is leaning towards the former.
I just think that there are certain assets to before. Let people know. I think a lot of people would not even run if I did that because, if you look at the polls, they don’t even register – most of these people. And, I think that you would actually have a backlash against them if they ran. People want me to run.
Polls have consistently shown that Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) are the two frontrunners to earn the Republican nomination for 2024. For the Democrats, though, it’s a different story.
We really have no idea who the Democrats’ presidential nominee for 2024 will be. One would expect it to be President Joe Biden, but polls are showing that not all Democrats are on board with this for a myriad of reasons, including his old age. It’s not clear who the Democrats would go with if not Biden.
Biden, nonetheless, insists that he will be running. This sets up a possible rematch of the 2020 presidential election.
If this does happen, multiple polls have shown Trump besting Biden.
