Trump, Cruz light into Nancy Pelosi for slow action on small business rescue fund

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has gone on the offensive against President Donald Trump’s coronavirus response from her home in San Francisco, igniting a firestorm of criticism.

Pelosi was just targeted by Trump, who lit into the Democrat leader via Twitter on Thursday. “Crazy ‘Nancy Pelosi, you are a weak person,” he fumed. “You are a poor leader. You are the reason America hates career politicians, like yourself.”

“She is totally incompetent & controlled by the Radical Left, a weak and pathetic puppet. Come back to Washington and do your job!”

Pelosi is on a roll

Pelosi has participated in a number of media interviews this week and has come out in full force against the Trump administration’s coronavirus response, despite being unwilling to call the House back into action until May.

Pelosi attacked Trump for halting aid to the World Health Organization and accused him of “dismantling infrastructure” that would have helped overcome the pandemic.

Though the Paycheck Protection Program — a fund set aside for small businesses to apply for loans in order to stay afloat during widespread shutdowns — ran out of money on Thursday, Pelosi has refused to consider adding more funds to the program despite warnings for several days that action had to be taken.

Instead, she opted to appear on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and show him her collection of ice cream in her luxury San Francisco home while bashing Trump, who is still in Washington.

The Republican National Committee blasted the move in an email, saying:

The Paycheck Protection Program ran out of money this morning because Democrats, led by Nancy Pelosi, blocked the necessary $250 billion replenishment for the program that Congressional Republicans tried to deliver. Now ‘Nancy Antoinette’ has to explain to America why she chose to show off her luxury refrigerators and $13-dollar a pint ice cream collection from her chateau in San Francisco instead of funding the Paycheck Protection Program which has saved millions of jobs all across the country.

Frustration builds

Frustration among lawmakers is reaching a fever pitch due to Democrat leadership’s unwillingness to push through additional small business coronavirus relief.

The phase 3 rescue bill, passed in March, will only sustain Americans for so long. Congress will have to reconvene to work on and pass a phase 4 bill due to extended shutdowns lasting through May and possibly even June.

However, Pelosi has dragged her feet on approving additional funding for a program that already exists and simply needs replenishing. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) lashed out at Pelosi in a tweet on Friday in response to Pelosi’s reported goal of “a good offer” from Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.

“‘A good offer’?!? How about you fund the damn program Nancy and stop playing games with people’s livelihood,” Cruz blazed.
