Donald Trump put “war criminal” Liz Cheney (R-WY) on notice after he successfully unseated one of the “RINOs” who voted for his second impeachment in South Carolina’s primary elections Tuesday night.
In a dark omen for Cheney, Rep. Tom Rice lost by a large margin to Trump-endorsed challenger Russell Fry, Breitbart reported. But Trump also failed to oust one of his most vocal critics in the GOP, Nancy Mace.
RINO Rice loses primary
Rice is the fifth House Republican to vote for Trump’s second impeachment to be leaving office, and the first to be fired by primary voters. Four of them, Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH), Fred Upton (R-MI), and John Katko (NY), are retiring.
Cheney, the most notorious of the bunch, is facing a serious primary challenge in August.
Rice has said he would vote to impeach Trump again and has praised Cheney as a “fearless leader” who would make an ideal Speaker of the House. Clearly, Rice was not on the same wavelength as primary voters who gave him just 24% of the vote in the 7th district.
Trump had less success Tuesday in freshman Mace’s 1st district. Mace defeated Trump-backed candidate Katie Arrington by about eight points, taking 53% of the vote.
Mace did not vote for Trump’s impeachment, but she turned on Trump after Jan.6 and said it was time for the party to dump him. As her primary approached, she reversed course and called herself one of Trump’s “earliest supporters.”
Trump fires warning shots
In Nevada, Trump-endorsed Adam Laxalt came out on top in his primary. Laxalt will compete in one of the most critical battleground races for control of the Senate.
There was bad news for Democrats in a Texas special election, where Mexican-born Republican Mayra Flores flipped control of a heavily Hispanic border district that Joe Biden carried by just four points in 2020.
Trump took a victory lap over his “GREAT night” on TRUTH Social, saying all of his candidates won big except Arrington, a “long shot who did FAR better than anticipated against an incumbent.”
He warned Cheney that “Impeach Master” Rice’s fate would soon befall her.
“Same thing’s going to happen in Wyoming to Virginia “resident” Liz Cheney, that happened in South Carolina to Congressman ‘Impeach Master’ Tom Rice, who lost as an incumbent by 28 points! To me she is nothing less than a war criminal who has done a TERRIBLE job for the Great State of Wyoming!”
