Trump says Biden's cognitive state is no joke

Former President Donald Trump says that President Joe Biden's cognitive state is no joking matter.

Trump said as much on Thursday during the Fox News town hall that he participated in alongside Fox's Sean Hannity.

There, Hannity asked Trump why, unlike some other Republicans, he has been reluctant to criticize Biden's cognitive struggles.

Hannity said:

I have asked you repeatedly about what you think about Joe Biden’s cognitive state. I’ve asked you about – is he up to the job physically, mentally? You have been very reluctant to go there. I’m not reluctant. To me, would everyone agree with me this guy’s cognitively not there? I doubt he knows what day of the week it is today. That’s how bad I think it’s gotten for him. Why are you reluctant to call that out?

"Because it's a serious problem

In response to Hannity's question, Trump began by making a revelation.

"Well, I don’t know if I’m supposed to say this," Trump said. "I actually called Sean and I asked Sean not to joke about it because he used to joke about it."

"I was joking about it," Hannity interjected.

Trump then continued:

Because he used to joke about it. I said, honestly, I don’t think it looks good for you or for anybody to joke about it, because it’s a serious problem. I said I just don’t think it’s good for anybody and, you know, it’s not appropriate. You can speak about it if you want, but I don’t think you should joke about it. And, you really didn’t after that.

"Well, now I realize how serious it is," Hannity said.

A surprising take?

This is one of perhaps two surprising comments recently made by Trump about Biden. The other regards Trump's recent response to Biden's fall at the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation ceremony on Thursday.

Trump said:

He actually fell down? Well, I hope he wasn't hurt. The whole thing is crazy. You've got to be careful about that... even if you have to tiptoe down the ramp. That's a bad place to fall... that's not inspiring

Trump, in the latter part of this response, was referring to how Biden and the Democrats once mocked Trump for carefully walking down a ramp at the West Point commencement ceremony in September 2020.

But, some have found these two responses from Trump to be rather tepid - at least by his standards.

One thing that we can say is that if Trump's not joking about it, then you know the situation must be serious - and it is. Biden has serious mental and physical health issues, and yet, he is seeking out another term as president.
