Trump slams Biden – giving up Afghan airfield was huge mistake

Former President Donald Trump blasted the closing of Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan as a huge mistake that serves as part of President Joe Biden’s failure in exiting the country.

“You took the military out and you just laid this to potential slaughter. I mean, Jimmy Carter had a few, very small number of hostages…He has potentially 45,000 American hostages. Nobody’s ever seen anything like this,” Trump said during an interview with Lisa Boothe.

Getting People Out Safely

“We should have sent the people out very safely, and we would have had Bagram open. That was always going to be — we should have kept Bagram because Bagram is between China,” Trump told Boothe, according to the Washington Examiner.

It has total access to China, Iran, and Afghanistan. And I guess they didn’t realize that they abandoned it,” he added.

“We always intended to keep it,” the former president told Boothe. He explained the airfield could have been helpful in the evacuation of Americans from the nation before the military exited the country.

Not Just Trump

Trump is not the only leader criticizing the closing of Bagram Airfield. Arkansas Republican Sen. Tom Cotton also tweeted strong words on the failed strategy.

“No one in their right mind would have closed Bagram Air Base while leaving behind thousands of civilians,” Cotton said.

“But that’s what Joe Biden did,” he added.

The Biden administration faces numerous criticisms for its failed departure from Afghanistan. The closing of Bagram Airfield is one of them, a strategy Trump clearly opposed.
