Trump slams Seattle Democrats after ‘domestic terrorists’ seize zone in capital city

President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Washington’s governor Wednesday, uring him to reclaim authority over Seattle after a group of “domestic terrorists” effectively seized part of the city, Fox News reported.

Trump threatened to take action if Democrat Gov. Jay Inslee does not “take back [his] city NOW” from a group of anarchists and leftists who have claimed control over a six-block section of downtown, an area they have designated the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone.

Trump slams Inslee

Seattle seemed to become a scene out of Mad Max when protesters, angry over police brutality, barricaded off a part of downtown and declared their own sovereign society, where no police are allowed and only the people rule.

The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, also known as CHAZ, garnered concern and mockery as reports streamed in from social media that a “warlord” had usurped police power in the area, which is guarded by armed checkpoints. The occupied zone also includes a police precinct that cops have abandoned to the demonstrators.

The protesters have released a lengthy list of demands, which includes the abolition of the police department and the court system, as well as a retrial for every minority currently serving prison time for a violent offense.

On Wednesday, President Trump called the protesters “domestic terrorists” and said that he would intervene if Inslee and Seattle’s Democrat mayor won’t establish order, in a tweet that was reposted with a spelling correction.

Dems fire back

Inslee and the Democratic mayor of Seattle, Jenny Durkan, have both fired back at Trump, according to the New York Post, even as protesters demanded Durkan’s resignation and Inslee claimed to have no idea what was going on in the area.

“Make us all safe. Go back to your bunker,” Durkan tweeted in response to Trump.

According to local NBC affiliate KING, Inslee said on Thursday that CHAZ is “unpermitted” and noted that “we should remember we are still in a pandemic,” but defended the “peaceful” protesters while slamming Trump for suggesting military action and complaining that Trump has not done enough to help Washington combat the coronavirus.

The putative leader of CHAZ, a rapper named Raz, denied being a “warlord” Thursday and said Trump “put a hit on my head,” Fox News reported.
