Trump supporters celebrate his recent visit to US-Mexico border

Former President Donald Trump has become a more prominent figure in recent weeks after laying low for the first few months since he left office.

In the wake of the Biden administration’s perceived inaction amid an ongoing immigration crisis, Trump’s recent visit to the U.S.-Mexico border struck some observers as a clear contrast to his successor.

“Booed by GOP congressional members”

A number of Trump supporters shared images of his border tour on social media, including one fan who declared: “The BOSS has showed up on our southern border!”

Trump appeared alongside Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for a speech and took some questions from a flock of reporters — including CNN’s Jim Acosta who demanded to know if he would apologize for his supposed role in instigating a riot on Capitol Hill in January. Townhall reporter Julio Rosa revealed in his own tweet that Trump ignored the question as many of those in attendance displayed their annoyance with Acosta’s partisan line of questioning.

The CNN correspondent subsequently addressed the incident in a pair of tweets.

“It’s almost July”

“At border event with Trump and Abbott I asked Trump if he’s going to apologize for January 6,” Acosta wrote. “Crowd of mostly GOP members and staff booed.”

He went on to accuse the ex-president of continuing “to lie about the election at the border with Gov. Abbott,” adding: “It’s almost July.”

Trump’s border visit came just days after Vice President Kamala Harris made her first trip to the region after being named President Joe Biden’s “border czar” earlier this year.

The vice president had previously resisted pressure from mostly conservative critics to witness the border crisis firsthand, even bursting into laughter when asked by one reporter if she had any plans to announce such a trip. Trump said he believed his decision to visit the border convinced Harris to do the same.

U.S. Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX) agreed, declaring: “It took months of pressure from those of us in Congress, Texans along the border, and a visit from President Trump himself to finally convince ‘Border Czar’ Vice President Harris to visit the border first-hand.”
