Riding the high of knocking “warmonger” Liz Cheney out of Congress, former president Trump turned to trolling New York Democrats with a pair of primary “endorsements” Wednesday.
The Republican leader gave his blessing to a lawyer who played a role in the Ukraine impeachment saga, Dan Goldman, and longtime Democrat Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), and lavished praise on impeachment ringleader Jerry Nadler (D-NY), the New York Post reported.
Trump trolls Dem primaries in NY
In a Truth Social post, Trump called Goldman, a lawyer who played a bit role in the Democratic party’s first impeachment charade, “honorable, fair, and highly intelligent.”
Trump said that Goldman, if elected, would help Republicans fight the “Radical Left Democrats, who he knows are destroying our Country.”
“I would like to thank Dan for fighting so hard for America, and for working so tirelessly to stop ‘Trump.’ He was not easy to beat, but winning against him made me realize just how very talented I am!” Trump wrote.
Goldman took the bait, blasting Trump’s “meddling” in an angry statement. One of Goldman’s opponents in the crowded primary for the 10th district cited Trump’s endorsement to knock Goldman.
Trump also weighed in on the race for the 12th district, where Maloney and Nadler, who are both well-past retirement age, are duking it out after redistricting put them in the same Manhattan district.
Nadler a “hard driving man”
In a post, Trump called Maloney a “kind and wonderful person, who has always said terrific things about me, and will support me no matter what I do, just as I supported her very early on,” and noted his campaign donations to her decades ago.
“She begged for a check with no quid pro quo, and I gave it to her. In fact, I gave her many….” he wrote.
Trump also had some kind words for Nadler, calling him a “hard driving man of the people, whose energy and attention to detail is unlike anyone else in Congress.” But, Trump said, Maloney “is the better man.”
“She will lead our Country into a very GREEN and prosperous future. Carolyn has my Complete and Total Endorsement, she will never let our Conservative Movement down!” Trump wrote.
Just two out of 10 Republicans who voted for Trump’s second impeachment are left in power after Trump unseated Cheney, his top Republican rival, in a primary this week. New York’s congressional primaries will take place on Tuesday.
