It’s more clear than ever that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has been infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome.
In a recent interview with CNN, Pelosi laid the blame for the ongoing coronavirus pandemic squarely at the feet of President Donald Trump, even going so far as to call COVID-19 “the Trump virus,” according to Newsweek.
“It is a pandemic that has gotten worse before it will get better because of his inaction, and in fact, clearly, it is the Trump virus,” Pelosi told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Tuesday, as Newsweek reported.
“Setting a bad example”
Blitzer responded to Pelosi’s assertion by asking the long-time California representative what she meant by referring to COVID-19 as the “the Trump virus.”
“If he had said months ago, ‘Let’s wear masks, let’s socially distance,’ instead of having rallies and political whatever they were, then more people would have followed his lead,” Pelosi replied, according to Newsweek.
The House speaker went on: “He’s the President of the United States. Instead of setting a bad example, making it like a manhood thing not to wear a mask.”
Of course, Pelosi didn’t mention the statements she made to reporters herself in February encouraging tourists to disregard fears of the virus and visit San Francisco’s Chinatown. “Precautions have been taken by our city,” Pelosi said, according to a transcript provided by her office. “We know that there is concern surrounding tourism, traveling all throughout the world, but we think it’s very safe to be in Chinatown and hope that others will come.”
Pelosi also didn’t bring up remarks from presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden, who initially condemned Donald Trump’s decision to suspend travel from China at the onset of the coronavirus outbreak as an example of “fear-mongering” and “xenophobia.” Biden, true to his record of policy reversals, later embraced the policy, as Fox News noted.
Indeed, while the House speaker may want to blame Trump for the over 141,000 deaths from COVID-19 in the U.S., she simply can’t ignore the missteps of her own party. Besides herself and Biden, Democrat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has also been in the spotlight over his handling of the coronavirus in nursing homes.
A June report from The New York Times revealed that nearly half of all coronavirus deaths in the U.S. at that time had occurred in these assisted living facilities. Despite this, nursing homes in the state of New York were initially required to take in patients who had tested positive for COVID-19 — a policy that Gov. Cuomo did not reverse until May 10, according to Fox.
CNBC further reported that the governor did not order that New York City’s transportation authority develop a plan for regular cleaning of trains and terminals until April 29, despite the system being used by millions.
All of this came at the height of COVID-19 in the U.S. — and we may never truly know how many lives were lost because of these Democrat policies. In the meantime, Dems like Pelosi may want to back off Trump, at least until they clear out the skeletons in their own closet.
