President Donald Trump warned that critical race theory is destroying the United States military at his first MAGA rally since returning to life as a private citizen.
The 45th president sounded off Saturday night against “woke” generals in a bruising attack on the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, Mark Milley, as well as other “weak and ineffective” leaders in the Pentagon’s top brass who Trump said are jeopardizing America’s security.
“They are laughing”
As Trump put it, the top brass have forgotten their duty to keep Americans safe and are instead pushing divisive, ideological “nonsense” on the troops.
“Our generals and our admirals are now focused more on this nonsense than they are on our enemies. You see these generals lately on television? They are woke. They’re woke,” he told the crowd in Ohio.
If critical race theory continues to spread in the ranks, soldiers will be “incapable of fighting and incapable of taking orders,” Trump added, according to a transcript.
America’s “enemies are watching and they are laughing,” he warned, painting a scenario in which discipline has broken down to such an extreme that generals are taking orders from privates.
“The private’s going to tell the general, ‘Don’t you ever speak to me that way, General, I’ll kick your ass.’ That’s our military. That’s where we’re going. Woke,” Trump declared.
Trump calls for ban on CRT
Trump’s Saturday comments, shown in a video posted to Facebook by Breitbart, appeared to be directed at Milley and other top-ranking military officers who have spoken out recently in defense of President Joe Biden’s decision to consciously politicize the armed forces.
According to Newsweek, Milley vehemently testified to Congress last week that he wants “to understand white rage” and finds it “offensive” that many Americans take issue with critical race theory being taught to troops, while Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin denied outright that critical race theory is being taught.
Austin has in fact led systematic efforts to wipe out “extremism” in the ranks that some say are actually unprecedented, Stalinist political purges.
According to the New York Post, a lieutenant colonel in the Space Force, Matthew Lohmeier, was recently removed from his post for speaking out against the spread of “Marxism” in the military that, he said, was teaching soldiers that America is “evil” and “that whites are inherently evil.”
Later in his Saturday speech, Trump called for a ban on critical race theory in the military and in schools, workplaces, and the federal government, and said that parents must have an option of taking their kids out of public schools that “teach children to hate our country.”
