Tucker Carlson calls out Liz Cheney over primary defeat

Fox News Host Tucker Carlson had fun piling on to Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) over her resounding primary election defeat on Tuesday, as well as the fact that she compared herself to Abraham Lincoln in her concession speech.

In his monologue on Wednesday, Carlson said of Cheney, “I feel sorry for her. It turns out American voters are harder to deal with than Iraqi civilians, you can’t just drone them to death. You have to obey them.”

He also showed an altered photo of Cheney’s face photoshopped onto an image of Lincoln as a way to poke fun at Cheney’s egotistical comparison and spoke of her “arrogance” as undiminished despite the largest primary defeat “this century.”

Lincoln lost elections before the presidency

“The great and original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln, was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all,” Cheney said to supporters. “Lincoln ultimately prevailed, he saved our union, and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history.”

“Speaking at Gettysburg of the great task remaining before us, Lincoln said that, ‘We here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from this earth.’ As we meet here tonight, that remains our greatest and most important task,” she added.

Tucker said laughingly of her comparison, “I lost; Lincoln lost; me, me, me, I’m Lincoln.”

He was not the only one to make fun of the comparison.

Others mock Cheney’s arrogance

Other Republicans and conservatives were also eager to mock Cheney’s defeat–after all, she had just spent the last year-and-a-half attacking former President Donald Trump and siding with Democrats against many members of her own party.

“A clear message is being sent about what the Republican Party needs to be,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tweeted. “It’s not anything like liar Liz Cheney, who is nothing like Abraham Lincoln.”

Conservative author Tim Young said, “Liz Cheney compared herself to Abraham Lincoln because I believe she’s truly delusional, wants a Civil War and thinks her side would win.”

“Someone should inform Liz Cheney that Abraham Lincoln would have voted for Harriet Hageman,” Trump-backed author Nick Adams wrote.
