According to Fox News, the Department of Homeland Security revealed last month that there were over 200,000 encounters between its agents and illegal migrants during the month of August.
The situation has gotten so insanely out of control that it has prompted some high-profile Democrats to speak out. One of them, Fox News noted, is former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D), who recently accused the Biden administration of lying about the reality of the situation unfolding at the southern U.S. border.
Gabbard made the claim during an interview Saturday with Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro.
“Actions speak louder”
“The Biden-Harris administration has an open-door policy at the borders,” the former congresswoman and 2020 Democratic candiate complained. “The reality is that people are being let in and crossing the border every single day.”
Gabbard also dismissed public statements made by officials within the administration telling would-be migrants to stay away from the United States.
“Actions speak louder and louder than words,” Gabbard stressed. “[I]t doesn’t matter how many times Sec. [Antony] Blinken or Kamala Harris or anyone from the administration says, you know, don’t come across the border.”
Gabbard added: “These drug cartels, these human traffickers, they are incredibly emboldened to the point where they feel that they can do this without consequence, where they feel they can continue profiting off of trafficking people across these borders that are essentially open.”
“The fact is that the open-door policy that this administration has in place is posing a humanitarian crisis is creating a humanitarian crisis, as well as a very serious security threat for our country,” Gabbard said.
The former lawmaker took particular issue with testimony offered by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas from September when he appeared on Capitol Hill for a hearing.
“The Department of Homeland Security secretary recently told Congress: ‘Our borders are secure,'” Gabbard recalled. “This is what he said.”
“And that’s the problem here is we don’t have leaders who … put themselves ahead of the interests of the people,” she continued, adding that such “bold-faced” deception is having a corrosive effect on the public.
“The faith and trust that the American people need to have in our leaders is dropping every day,” Gabbard concluded.
