Tulsi Gabbard, the former House member and presidential candidate, has announced that she is leaving the Democratic Party, Fox News reports.
Gabbard made the announcement on Tuesday with a video that can be found on YouTube. Gabbard also posted highlights of the video in a Twitter thread.
“Why I’m leaving the Democratic Party”
Gabbard’s Twitter thread begins with a lengthy sentence summing up the many problems that she has with today’s Democratic Party.
She writes:
I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue & stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms, are hostile to people of faith & spirituality, demonize the police & protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, believe in open borders, weaponize the national security state to go after political opponents, and above all, dragging us ever closer to nuclear war.
Gabbard goes on to call for, presumably those Democratic Americans who agree with her, to join her in her departure.
“I’m calling on my fellow common sense independent-minded Democrats to join me in leaving the Democratic Party,” Gabbard said. “If you can no longer stomach the direction that so-called woke Democratic Party ideologues are taking our country, I invite you to join me.”
Gabbard did receive quite a number of positive replies to the thread. Although, as always, there were some negative ones as well.
Where to now?
Given some of the criticisms that she made of the Democratic Party, one could say that Gabbard sounded like a Republican, and thus, it would appear likely that Gabbard is switching to the Republican Party.
Gabbard, however, has yet to make such a statement.
That being said, it has been reported that Gabbard will now be campaigning for Don Bolduc, a pro-Trump Republican U.S. Senate candidate from New Hampshire.
Many have seen this coming from Gabbard for a long time given statements she has made in recent years that have been highly critical of Democrats.
Still, Gabbard has come a long way from 2020 when she dropped out of the race for the U.S. presidency and endorsed then-candidate Joe Biden.
