UFC champion Conor McGregor arrested for dangerous driving

Famous mixed martial artist Conor McGregor is no stranger to controversy, and his latest antics are sure to ignite another firestorm of criticism.

McGregor was arrested in Ireland under suspicion of dangerous driving on Tuesday. The UFC star was taken into custody by police in Dublin for “alleged road traffic violations.”

Caught in the act

The 33-year-old MMA champion was reportedly driving his Bentley Continental GT — a vehicle worth more than $185,000 — when police accosted him for reckless driving.

Video footage obtained by TMZ shows McGregor racing “neck-and-neck with another car on the Dublin highway … when moments later sirens are heard, and a white squad car is behind McGregor.”

The Irish Independent reported that McGregor “passed the drug and alcohol tests taken at the station.”

McGregor reportedly faces serious charges of dangerous driving which would carry a hefty sentence of up to six years in prison and a $5,500 fine if he’s convicted.

A police spokesperson said that McGregor “has been released pending an appearance before Blanchardstown District Court at a later date.”

Living on the edge

This isn’t McGregor’s first run-in with the law, nor is it his first dangerous driving incident.

In fact, the notoriously hot-headed boxing champion has a long list of arrests and driving violations since just 2017.

In November 2017 McGregor pleaded guilty to exceeding the speed limit in Rathcoole, County Dublin. In November 2018 he pleaded guilty to another speeding charge and was fined €1000 and disqualified from driving for six months.

McGregor has also been arrested on several occasions for assaulting other UFC fighters, celebrities, and even fans.

McGregor has been recovering from a major leg injury incurred last July and is expected to make his Octagon return in early 2023.
