President Joe Biden’s withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan has been an unmitigated disaster. As it stands, thousands of American citizens are said to be trapped in a country that is effectively under the control of the Taliban.
The Biden administration has attempted to downplay the severity of its obvious failures by urging Americans who want to leave Afghanistan to come to the airport in Kabul for an evacuation flight. But a haunting new video that just went viral on social media shows that doing so is much easier said than done.
The Taliban, for all intents and purposes, is in control of Kabul, with American military forces confined to the airport. With that, it appears the Islamist militants have made it exceptionally risky for Americans or their Afghan allies to travel to or through the capital city — much less actually approach the airport.
And according to CNBC, the Biden administration has said as recently as Wednesday that it can’t help those who can’t get to the airport on their own.
Trapped outside the airport
A CBS News correspondent shared a video on social media that makes clear the conditions on the ground there. The clip was said to have been recorded by a couple with U.S. citizenship who reached the perimeter of the airport, but were unable to enter into the American-guarded area.
Amid the smoke-filled air outside the airport, a woman pleaded for help from U.S. troops on the other side of a razor-wire barrier.

Terror at the hands of the Taliban
On Thursday, the Los Angeles Times reported that President Biden had expressed in an interview with ABC News his intent to evacuate all Americans who want to leave Afghanistan. He cited an agreement reached with the Taliban that would allow people to safely travel to the airport.
Similar instructions and assurances were issued earlier in the week by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley.
However, as can be seen in that video — and according to other reports coming out of Kabul — the Taliban has set up checkpoints in and around the capital city and is harassing and even attacking those trying to make their way to the airport.
Biden’s State Department is now accusing the Taliban of breaking their promises, CNBC reports — but should any of us really be surprised at that? As president of the United States, you’d think Biden would know better.
