The footage shows some people waving Afghan flags and holding signs that read “Save Afghanistan” and “Afghanistan is Bleeding.”
One demonstrator appeared to proclaim that the United States had “left us for the dogs.” Take a look:
Afghan government topples
The demonstration comes after the world watched in horror over the weekend as the Taliban inched closer to Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul, eventually taking control of it late Sunday. By then, the U.S. had evacuated embassy personnel, but many others, including Afghans who had provided aid to American forces before their recent withdrawal, were left behind.
The disastrous situation has left many questioning decisions made by the Biden administration amid the withdrawal. Notably, the United States abandoned Bagram Airfield early last month, the Associated Press reported, despite the fact that it could have been used as a second evacuation point.
The U.K.’s Independent reported that Bagram was looted following America’s departure, with some of its military equipment ending up in the hands of Taliban fighters.
Indeed, France24 alleged in a recent report that Taliban militants have been seen carrying American weapons amid their takeover of Afghanistan.
“Some of that weaponry is now being brazenly paraded ahead of the U.S. troops’ 9/11 withdrawal deadline by insurgents who have maintained ties with [al-Qaida], the group behind the 2001 terror attacks,” the report stated.
“It will follow us home”
During an appearance on Fox News on Monday, Florida congressman and former Green Beret Mike Waltz (R) pointed to the potential threat that a strongly armed Taliban could pose to America.
“Now the Taliban have access to massive caches of heavy weaponry, artillery, armored vehicles, ammunition,” the Republican explained, according to Fox. Meanwhile, he said, America has “no bases, no allies, no host government, not even a northern alliance” thanks to the recent withdrawal.
Worse still, Waltz warned, “What happens in Afghanistan doesn’t stay in Afghanistan. It will spread and it will follow us home.”
