Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin (R) just scored a big victory for parents — and sanity — in his fight to end scientifically illiterate, harmful mask mandates.
The state’s Supreme Court rejected a challenge to Youngkin’s executive order letting parents unmuzzle their kids, the Washington Examiner reported.
Big victory for sanity
Many of Virginia’s school districts — more than half, by one count — are clinging to irrational mask mandates after Youngkin kept a campaign promise to ban them on day one of his administration. Parents in Chesapeake, Virginia petitioned the courts to block Youngkin’s order, but the petition was dismissed.
Youngkin praised the decision, tweeting, “We will continue to protect the rights of parents to make decisions regarding their child’s health, education, upbringing, and care.”
The court made its decision on procedural grounds, rather than the merits. The petitioners had asked for a writ of mandamus, a form of relief that the Supreme Court said did not apply, WTOP reported.
While the challengers claimed that Youngkin was required by state law to muzzle the state’s children, the court found that he had no such obligation.
“We dismiss the petition because the relief requested does not lie against any of the respondents,” the court wrote.
Dems starting to pivot?
The ruling is a narrow, but significant victory for the governor, whose executive order, unfortunately, remains tied up in the courts. A judge in ultra-liberal Arlington issued a restraining order against Youngkin’s mandate last week after seven school districts sued.
It has long been known that COVID-19 poses a trivial risk to children, in contrast to the significant harms induced by the unnecessary lockdowns, remote “learning,” and frivolous mask theater that continue to be supported by many neurotic liberals.
But some Democratic politicians and public health bureaucrats have started sending out signals that they want to pull back from the tyrannical lunacy they have been pushing on the country for almost two years, as a widely anticipated red wave in November’s midterm elections draws closer.
According to Fox News, CNN pundit Leana Wen, known for her hyper-aggressive support of restrictions, was roundly mocked for claiming that Democratic governors can begin to drop mandates because the “science has changed.”
Youngkin, whose upset victory in November was widely seen as a wake-up call to Democrats, applauded governors in blue states such as Delaware and New Jersey for “following our reasoning and a path to normalcy” by moving to end their mask mandates.
