Though the immigration crisis at the southern U.S. border quietly slipped out of the headlines for the past two weeks given the intensity of other news topics, it’s still very much a problem that seems to be getting worse at an exponential rate.
According to Newsmax, even though she was appointed 30 days ago to tackle the root causes of such an influx of illegal immigrants from their home countries, Vice President Kamala Harris still hasn’t visited the southern U.S. border, which is a fact not lost on Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee, who took aim at the vice president in a recent tweet.
What did they say?
The official House Judiciary GOP Twitter account fired off the reminder to the vice president on Sunday, in the wake of various members of the committee, including Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) continuing to call out President Joe Biden’s administration for their apparent reluctance to visit the southern U.S. border.
Today would be a good day for Vice President Harris to visit the southern border.

Though there has been an impressive spin campaign by the White House — specifically by White House press secretary Jen Psaki — about Harris’ exact role in being tasked with taking on the border crisis, the situation is bad enough that it at least calls for basic signs of leadership from the current administration, which would include taking a trip to the border to see, firsthand, just how bad it is.
So far, reports indicate that Harris has spoken with various leaders from the “Northern Triangle” countries where a majority of the migrants are coming from and she supposedly plans to visit the border, but nothing has been added to her schedule to confirm.
An Associated Press report from late March revealed that the vice president apparently has no plans on making a visit “in the near future,” according to spokeswoman Symone Sanders.
The Biden administration’s seeming lack of action has been widely panned by a number of members of Congress, including Jordan, who earlier this week called out Harris for traveling across the United States and not taking an hour out of her schedule to make a border visit.
“Vice President Kamala Harris visited North Carolina yesterday. She’s set to visit New Hampshire on Friday. When’s the ‘border czar’ going to visit the southern border?” Jordan tweeted.
House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) slammed the vice president earlier this month with a similar call-out.
“If she’s the vice president of the United States and the president put her in charge of this, Vice President Harris needs to go down to the border and see this for herself.” Scalise said. “Because maybe she would then encourage President Biden to reverse his policies that have failed.”
Americans are well aware that a visit to the border isn’t going to fix anything, but it’s a basic form of leadership expected by Americans during times of crisis. Hopefully, someone can remind Harris of that before the backlash continues to grow.
