Vice President Kamala Harris just proved how out-of-touch the Biden administration is with its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, as she uttered an embarrassing falsehood during a recent interview concerning COVID-19 variants.
According to the Washington Examiner, during a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Harris claimed that scientists or the Biden administration “didn’t see delta coming,” though numerous scientists and even former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) chief Robert Redfield predicted such a possibility well in advance.
The vice president’s false claim came on the heels of surges in COVID-19 cases across the country as the highly transmissible — but less dangerous, so far — omicron variant begins to take hold.
Harris’ big lie
Harris, who has quickly become one of the most unliked and poorest performing vice presidents in U.S. history, according to virtually every poll, failed in her attempt to curb growing criticism over the spread of the new variant.
“We didn’t see delta coming. I think most scientists did not — upon whose advice and direction we have relied — didn’t see delta coming,” Harris said during the interview.
Continuing her attempt to lie, she added: “We didn’t see omicron coming. And that’s the nature of what this, this awful virus has been, which as it turns out, has mutations and variants.”
As the Examiner noted, even scientists and health experts within the Biden administration, months ago, warned that COVID-19 would undoubtedly spawn variants of varying potency, as viruses typically do, as its their biological nature to find ways to continue to spread.
Even Fauci said it
Dr. Tony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Biden’s chief medical adviser, clearly stated back in August that variants were a valid concern for the winter.
“If we don’t crush the outbreak to the point of getting the overwhelming proportion of the population vaccinated, then what will happen is the virus will continue to smolder through the fall into the winter, giving it ample chance to get a variant which, quite frankly, we’re very lucky that the vaccines that we have now do very well against the variants — particularly against severe illness,” Fauci said at the time.
Fauci added: “We’re very fortunate that that’s the case. There could be a variant that’s lingering out there that can push aside delta.”
As it would turn out, Fauci — who’s adored by the Biden admin and its media allies — was right about one thing, at least, as the omicron variant has now spread across most of the United States, though its level of danger is still largely unknown.
Though Harris and President Biden — along with the rest of the administration — had excoriated former President Donald Trump for his handling of the pandemic, more Americans have died under Biden’s watch. It’s clear that Harris is attempting to do damage control, but lying to the American public about the current state of the pandemic is a new low, even for the current White House.
