VP insists border is secure even as migrants show up at her residence

Vice President Kamala Harris raised eyebrows last week when she told NBC host Chuck Todd that America’s “border is secure.”

This was despite the fact that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) figures released in August showed that roughly 2 million migrants arrived in fiscal year 2022. What’s more, some of them are showing up on her doorstep at the Naval Observatory.

“Completely disconnected”

According to Fox News, a busload of 50 migrants disembarked outside of the vice president’s residence on Saturday. The network noted that those arrivals came after two other buses arrived on Thursday.

They were the latest example of a recent phenomenon in which the governors of Texas, Arizona, and Florida have been sending illegal migrants to so-called sanctuary jurisdictions.

Former Democratic Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard tweeted out footage of Harris’ interview with Todd, saying the vice president is “either completely disconnected from reality or she’s blatantly lying” about the border.

“We have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours and our administration,” Harris said.

“But there are still a lot of problems that we are trying to fix given the deterioration that happened over the last four years,” she added.

“The border is open”

Meanwhile, a Twitter account run by the Republican National Committee tweeted out footage of a migrant saying the border is anything but secure.

“It’s open, not closed,” the migrant told a Fox News correspondent. “Everybody believes that the border is open. It’s open because we enter. We come in, free, no problem. Yeah, we came illegally, not legally.”
