According to one high-profile Fox News personality, it is time for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to come out of the basement.
On Friday, Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace once again called on Biden to be interviewed on his program, Fox News reported.
So far, however, there is nothing to suggest that Biden might be willing to accept the invitation anytime soon.
Wallace spoke about his persistent attempts to obtain an interview with Biden during an appearance on Bill Hemmer Reports.
“We asked last week for an interview [for] this past Sunday with Joe Biden, and [his campaign] said that he is not available for that Sunday,” Wallace said, as Fox noted. “That’s not saying that he will not do an interview from now until Election Day, and we will ask every week, but, you know, we’ll see.”
The television veteran has been attempting to get Biden to sit down with him to answer questions ever since mid-July when he conducted a lengthy interview with President Donald Trump.
What’s Biden hiding?
At the moment, there is persistent doubt among voters as to whether Biden is mentally capable of handling the demands of the presidency. Since joining the race, the former VP has been highly prone to committing embarrassing gaffes and miscues, leading to speculation that his campaign is intentionally restricting his appearances to prevent further damage to his electoral prospects.
Wallace noted the stark contrast between the respective approaches of Biden and Trump following his recent interview with the commander in chief.
“The fact is the president is out there,” Wallace said at the time, according to The Hill. “He’s out there in this broiling heat with me for an hour, he took all the questions. You can like his answers or dislike them but he had answers and Joe Biden hasn’t faced that kind of scrutiny, hasn’t faced that kind of exposure.”
If nothing else, Wallace suggested on Friday that Biden ought to do a Sunday show interview simply to get in condition for the upcoming presidential debates.
“You know, you have to get into game shape like you would for a sports season or anything else,” Wallace said, according to Fox. “And, I think that if you haven’t, you may be a little rusty — which is not a good thing when 80 million people are watching.”
Time will tell whether Biden will finally come out of hiding to sit down with Wallace — or any other journalist who might do more than simply lob softballs — but as of now, we aren’t holding our breath.
