Breitbart News reports that the White House of President Joe Biden is, once again, playing defense, following its selection of Nina Jankowicz to lead the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) new “Disinformation Governance Board.”
The DHS announced this week the creation of the new board as well as the fact that it is going to be led by Jankowicz. This immediately thrust Jankowicz into the spotlight, and it would be an understatement to say that, like many of Biden’s appointments, she has failed to stand up to scrutiny.
The problem — besides the fact that a “disinformation board” has obvious parallels to George Orwell’s “Ministry of Truth” — is that the new “disinformation czar” is herself a disseminator of disinformation.
As Fox News puts it, “Jankowicz has already ruffled some feathers after it was discovered that the Wilson Center global fellow and author had previously pushed information later found to be false or misleading.”
Fox, in its report, provides several examples of Jankowicz disseminating disinformation. One example is that Jankowicz has repeatedly questioned the legitimacy of Hutner Biden’s infamous laptop, particularly during the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election.
In October 2020, Jankowica tweeted: “Back on the ‘laptop from hell,’ apparently—Biden notes 50 former natsec officials and 5 former CIA heads that believe the laptop is a Russian influence op. Trump says ‘Russia, Russia, Russia.”
On another occasion, Jankowicz heaped praise on Chis Steele, the former British Spy who produced the fake Steele dossier that sought to link Trump to Russia. “Listened to this last night – Chris Steele (yes THAT Chris Steele) provides some great historical context about the evolution of disinfo. Worth a listen,” Jankowicz wrote.
On top of this, Jankowicz, according to Breitbart, also has a “long history of promoting online censorship” and of “making partisan statements.”
With all this criticism being leveled at Jankowicz, the Biden-led White House has been forced to play defense. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Friday touted Jankowicz as an “expert” on “online disinformation.”
“This is a person with extensive qualifications,” Psaki said.
The big question is what exactly the purpose of Jankowicz’s job is. Psaki claims that Jankowicz will simply be continuing “the work of the former president,” by fighting “disinformation,” while protecting “civil liberties,” and “the First Amendment.”
Conservatives can’t help but wonder whether this is the left’s latest attempt to silence the political opposition, since they just lost the ability to do so on Twitter after Elon Musk purchased the platform.
