White House likens GOP governors’ transportation of migrants to human ‘smuggling’ in Central America

A couple of prominent southern Republican governors have sparked outrage among Democrats and exposed their hypocrisy in recent weeks and months by proactively transporting newly arrived illegal migrants to self-proclaimed “sanctuary city” jurisdictions run exclusively by Democrats, such as New York City, Washington D.C., and even the ultra-wealthy Massachusetts island of Martha’s Vineyard.

Democrats and their media allies have hysterically decried those actions as cruel and inhumane, and now even President Joe Biden’s White House has absurdly likened the entirely voluntary transportations to be akin to “smuggling” and human trafficking, The Free Press reported.

That outrageous accusation came in the immediate wake of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) sending around 50 illegal migrants to Martha’s Vineyard this week, which coincided with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) sending around 100 migrants to the D.C. residence of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Transporting illegal migrants cross-country is akin to human “smuggling,” WH spox says

During Friday’s press briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre launched into an extended rant about how Republicans were “sowing chaos and division” and “engaging in cruel political theater” in reference to the busloads and planeloads of illegal migrants that have been voluntarily transported from GOP-led states to the supposed “sanctuary” of Democrat-run cities.

She accused the Republican governors of having used the migrants “as political pawns, treated them like chattel in a cruel, premeditated political stunt.”

“These vulnerable migrants were reportedly misled about where they were headed; told they would be headed to Boston; misled about what they would be provided when they arrived; promised shelter, refuge, benefits, and more,” Jean-Pierre alleged. “These are the kinds of tactics we see from smugglers in places like Mexico and Guatemala.”

Later in the briefing, Jean-Pierre also seemed to indicate that the White House had referred the matter of state-led migrant transportation to the Justice Department for criminal investigation, though she quickly clammed up and refused to elaborate any further when pressed multiple times for additional explanation.

If this constitutes “smuggling,” then Biden is even more guilty than the governors

To claim that Republican governors like Abbott and DeSantis, as well as Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) to a lesser extent, are engaged in “smuggling” by transporting newly arrived illegal migrants to Democrat-run “sanctuary” jurisdictions is a pretty bold claim that, if pressed, will hugely backfire on the Biden White House.

That is because it has been well documented over the past year and a half, chiefly by the likes of the New York Post and Washington Examiner, how Biden’s own administration has been secretly transporting migrants from the border to other locales across the country — and often depositing those newly arrived migrants in predominately Republican jurisdictions.

Indeed, numerous reports have exposed the secretive late-night flights of migrants, often unaccompanied children, being flown unannounced to places like Jacksonville, Florida; Chattanooga, Tennessee; central Pennsylvania; and Westchester, New York — likely as well as other destinations.

If the Republican governors are guilty of “smuggling” for transporting a few thousand migrants to Democrat-run cities, then Biden is just as guilty of the same alleged crime for similarly transporting tens of thousands of migrants to Republican-run areas of the country.
