President Joe Biden’s White House just made an announcement that has many Republicans furious.
According to Breitbart, all visitors to the White House, including journalists, better make sure they have a COVID-19 vaccine card because they’ll be denied entry without it, with few exceptions.
Biden’s latest mandate
The COVID-19 vaccine mandate was revealed on Friday by CBS reporter Steven Portnoy, the president of the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA).
“Per the below memo from the White House,” Portnoy wrote in an email to fellow WHCA members, “all who enter the [White House] complex are being asked to fill out the attached form attesting to their vaccination status.”
Portnoy emphasized that the vaccination requirement is for all White House visitors, including journalists. There is an option, though, for those who wish not to get vaccinated but who still want to visit the White House.
“Those who are not vaccinated, or decline to return the form, must be tested at their own expense at Jackson Place, or show proof of a same-day test,” Portnoy wrote.
The new mandate, according to Portnoy, will go into effect on Aug. 8th.
It is unclear what effect, if any, the White House’s vaccine mandate will have, if any, especially considering a vast majority of journalists who work at the White House were vaccinated long ago.
Earlier this year, the WHCA asked members of the White House press corps to “confidentially share their vaccination status.” Over 500 members responded to that survey, and what the WHCA found was that 99.6% of respondents revealed that they had been fully vaccinated.
This latest vaccine mandate from the Biden administration follows another that requires all federal employees and contractors to prove their COVID-19 vaccination status or to undergo vigorous testing.
Biden and his administration have placed a large amount of the blame for the recent surge in COVID-19 cases — namely as a result of the highly contagious delta variant — on unvaccinated Americans.
Elsewhere, though, the administration has settled for encouraging localities and private entities to issue their own vaccine mandates. Many private entities have followed through, and as Breitbart noted, New York City became the first U.S. city to require its residents to prove vaccination in order to do everyday, routine things like go to a restaurant or to an entertainment venue.
