Wife of Trump special counsel donated to Biden, produced Michelle Obama documentary

Last Friday, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed former federal prosecutor Jack Smith to serve as special counsel in two investigations of former President Donald Trump.

Yet while CNBC quoted Garland as promising that Smith will operate in an “even-handed” manner, newly uncovered information casts doubt on that claim.

Special counsel’s wife donated to Biden campaign, produced Obama film

Smith is married to Katy Chevigny, and according to the Washington Examiner, she donated $1,000 to President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign.

What’s more, Chevigny is listed on IMDB as being a producer for the film Becoming, which is described as being “an intimate documentary” on former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Those revelations led Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz to suggest during a recent interview with former Trump White House advisor Steve Bannon that Smith’s investigation will be anything but impartial.

“You would think that if the stated purpose to avoid any type of concern about bias were sincere, then they would at least check to see whether or not when you shake the family tree of the special counsel, any virulent Trump haters, Never Trumpers, Biden supporters fall out,” Gaetz said on Tuesday according to Raw Story.

“This is déjà-vu all over again because [former special counsel Robert Mueller] assembled a team that had very well demonstrated bias against President Trump,” he continued.

“One has to wonder if we shouldn’t address this legislatively so that in the future — whether it’s Republicans or Democrats being investigated — you don’t have the very people in the throws of the political conflict trying to migrate their political grievance into the criminal justice process,” Gaetz went on to add.

Georgia Republican: “You just can’t make this stuff up”

Gaetz was not the only Republican lawmaker to call out the apparent conflict of interest, with Georgia Rep. Andrew Clyde saying it is evidence of “a corrupt, two-tiered justice system.”

Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk took notice of the situation as well, tweeting, “Of course the wife of Jack Smith, the special counsel appointed by Merrick Garland to investigate President Trump, was one of the producers of the Michelle Obama documentary.”

“But don’t worry guys, the DOJ has not been weaponized against conservatives. Everything is fine,” Kirk remarked sarcastically.
