Republicans in Arizona and Georgia have made numerous headlines over the last several months for carrying out lengthy and comprehensive audits of the 2020 election. Now, conservatives in another state may be about to do the same.
Just the News reports that Wisconsin state Rep. Timothy Ramthun (R) moved Thursday to call for a full forensic audit of last year’s vote count in his state.
“We need to create transparency and settle the debate of truth vs. conspiracy,” the Republican lawmaker was quoted as saying in a statement. “There is nothing of greater importance than ensuring that we uphold our constitutional rights to have a government of, by, and for the people.”
Of particular concern to Ramthun is whether ballots were folded or printed by machine. He also wants to investigate potential irregularities associated with mail-in ballots.
“The findings of two other states that show evidence of fraud that saw similar irregularities in their elections, it is our duty as a Legislature to restore confidence in our elections process,” he said of Georgia and Arizona, according to Just the News.
On Sunday, Just the News revealed that Georgia House Speaker David Ralston, also a Republican, is seeking another investigation into possible “irregularities or willful fraud” in Fulton County, which is home to the Peach State’s largest city.
Ralston’s demand comes in the wake of an independent report showing “massive” problems in how Fulton County handled its voting and counting procedures.
Seven Hill Strategies was hired by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to review Fulton’s election practices. According to firm owner Carter Jones, the county has a “massive chain of custody problem.”
“It is my understanding is that the ballots are supposed to be moved in numbered, sealed boxes to protect them,” Jones wrote in a memo, adding that this did not happen, according to Just the News.
Also of concern were temporary workers brought in to assist in ballot processing, with at least one allegedly expressing a desire to “f*** s*** up.”
“Given the seriousness of this situation and the possible repercussions for our state and nation, it is time we have an independent investigation — once and for all — of the way in which Fulton County conducted, counted and audited the November 2020 Presidential Election,” Ralston said in a letter to Fulton County election officials, as Just the News reported.
Ralston insisted that the county request an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to “follow the evidence wherever it may lead to determine if any irregularities or willful fraud occurred.”
