Many conservative parents have expressed a concern that teachers are working to indoctrinate their children into left-wing causes.
That seems to be the reason why one school district recently decided to prohibit teachers from introducing political and religious flags in its classrooms.
Policy bans both left-wing and conservative flags
According to Fox News, Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine School Board voted to adopt the ban during a meeting held last week. The vote was nearly unanimous, with just one board member voicing dissent.
“Teachers and administration will not have political flags or religious messaging in their classroom or on their person,” Superintendent Stephen Plum was quoted as saying just prior to the vote being held.
The new rule will apply to flags referencing Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ pride movement along with those expressing support for law enforcement.
Fox 6 reported that many students turned out for the meeting. One is said to have declared, “The fact is, the majority of students don’t want or need this, so catering to the minority only encourages the envelope to be pushed further.”
Christine Donahoe works as an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin, and she said the new rule was an effort to go after particular groups.
“If you have a policy that says ‘nothing political,’ does that mean you can’t have a sign up that says, ‘Support our Troops’ or ‘Believe Women’ or ‘Save the Planet?’ By some people’s definitions, all of those things are political,” she said.
Donahoe went on to complain that the policy seems to be an example of “targeted attacks at specific viewpoints, like LGBT communities, or welcome and safe spaces to students of color.”
California teacher told student to pledge allegiance to gay pride flag
A California school teacher made headlines last year when Fox News reported that she boasted of removing the American flag from her classroom and telling students to pledge allegiance to the gay pride flag.
