Former President Donald Trump warned that World War III could be coming soon because of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression against Ukraine and threats to use nuclear weapons in the conflict.
Along with the warning on Truth Social, Trump also claimed that the Ukraine war wouldn’t have happened if he had still been president.
“President Putin of Russia is now threatening the use of Nuclear Weapons, saying ‘It is not a bluff.’ The Ukrainian conflict should never have happened, and would not have happened if I were President. But as I have made very clear for quite some time, this could now end up being World War III,” he said.
Most Americans are no longer paying attention to the war in Ukraine as they try to make ends meet in the midst of the worst inflation many of them have ever seen.
But as Ukraine began to gain ground and drive Russian troops out of some areas of their nation, Putin has announced that he will be mobilizing up to 300,000 more troops and may use nuclear weapons in the conflict.
Putin said in a pre-recorded message that the West “wants to destroy our country,” accusing NATO of trying to “turn Ukraine’s people into cannon fodder,” according to CNBC.
As part of the “partial mobilization,” Putin could force businesses and individuals to contribute to the war effort. Putin said that reserve soldiers would be called up, but that non-military citizens would not be conscripted for the mobilization.
Some sources are skeptical of Putin’s claims and say that citizens are being conscripted.
If Russia does use nuclear weapons in the war, NATO and the West would not have much choice but to intervene to prevent widespread damage, and would be drawn into a world conflict.
CNBC seemed to agree with Trump that World War III could be coming.
“Putin has alluded to Russia’s nuclear weaponry at various points during the conflict with Ukraine but there are doubts over whether Moscow would actually resort to deploying such a weapon, with analysts saying it could be tantamount to starting a third world war,” the outlet said.
In addition to the military mobilization, Russia will also be seeking to formally annex parts of Ukraine that are under its control, in spite of Ukraine’s strong opposition to the move.
