Newly declassified sections of Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s 2019 report on alleged abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) totally vindicate President Donald Trump, Fox News host Sean Hannity argued Thursday.
Hannity said on Thursday night’s episode of his self-named Fox show that the new details provide “irrefutable evidence of massive FISA court fraud” by the FBI in obtaining warrants to spy on the 2016 Trump campaign team, Fox News reported.
“It’s worse than what we thought,” Hannity said, according to Fox.
Hannity: Trump was railroaded
Indeed, it turns out that the primary source for the infamous anti-Trump dossier compiled by ex-British spy Christopher Steele was a suspected Russian spy who was investigated from 2009 to 2011 by the FBI for his activities, according to a newly unredacted footnote on the report.
“They knew for 10 years he was a Russian spy,” Hannity said of the newly declassified information, as Fox reported.
“That means the source of Steele’s dossier was a Russian spy and Hillary [Clinton] paid for it all,” he went on to allege. “And our FBI — [Director] James Comey, Mr. Higher Honor — knew it the entire time.”
Working with Russia?
Hannity’s remarks came hours after Attorney General William Barr announced that the details would be declassified in a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) about his committee’s ongoing investigation into the Trump–Russia collusion probe.
“The FBI has declassified the relevant portion of the footnote, number 334, which states that ‘the Primary Sub-source was the subject of an FBI counterintelligence investigation from 2009 to 2011 that assessed his or her contacts with suspected Russian intelligence officers,'” Barr wrote to Graham, according to Fox.
As Hannity noted, this sub-source was considered a national security threat — certainly not a credible source for information. But even though the FBI knew who the sub-source was in December 2016, they didn’t reveal this information in their applications for warrants through the FISA court.
“Comey and others used Steele’s dirty dossier, that Hillary [Clinton] paid for, as the bulk of evidence,” Hannity lamented. “And now we know the sub-source was not only unreliable but the FBI knew this person — without any doubt, from day one — to be a Russian agent.”
The bottom line
Of course, it remains to be seen whether anyone will actually be held accountable for these egregious wrongdoings in the upper levels of then-President Barack Obama’s Justice Department. Tapped by Barr, U.S. Attorney John Durham has been investigating the origins of the FBI’s Trump–Russia probe for months with little to show for it.
Americans are growing tired of waiting. When will justice finally be served?
