GOP Rep. Zeldin suggests Schiff would ‘go to jail for a long time’ if not a congressman

U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has frequently promoted the idea that President Donald Trump has in some way violated the law by colluding with Russia ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

When he pushed the theory this week that a similar conspiracy is at play this year, however, a Republican colleague shot back with a theory of his own that Schiff belongs behind bars, as reported by Breitbart.

“They’ve been pushing this false narrative”

Schiff suggested that emails reportedly discovered on a laptop belonging to Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, was part of a Russian conspiracy.

“We know that this whole smear on Joe Biden comes from the Kremlin, that’s been clear for well over a year now that they’ve been pushing this false narrative about this vice president and his son,” Schiff said in a recent CNN appearance.

His remarks came in the wake of a bombshell report from the New York Post purportedly shedding new light on the younger Biden’s business interests in Ukraine. For Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY), it is Schiff who should face a criminal investigation.

In a tweet, he suggested that Schiff might be facing jail time if it were not for his position, but is instead allowed to benefit politically from telling lies about his rivals.

“If you lie to Congress, you can go to jail for a long time,” Zeldin wrote. “On the other hand, liars who are actually in Congress like Schiff instead get rewarded with increased power and title.”

“It’s simply not true”

The Post reported that the former vice president apparently met with an executive from Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian energy firm that provided his son with a lucrative board position, contradicting his previous claims to have known nothing about the latter’s business dealings.

John Ratcliffe, the head of the nation’s intelligence community, revealed to Fox News that there is no evidence to back up Schiff’s claim that the emails were created by Russian operatives.

“It’s simply not true,” he said, adding that “in this case, apparently, Chairman Schiff wants anything against his preferred political candidate to be deemed as ‘not real’ and as using the intelligence community or attempting to use the intelligence community to say there’s nothing to see here.”

Along with others in the mainstream media and Democratic Party, Schiff has not been known to let a lack of evidence get in the way of his agenda.

As Zeldin noted, however, ordinary Americans are not given such latitude under the law.
