The Washington Examiner reports that supporters of former President Donald Trump want him to run for the U.S. presidency in 2024 and that Trump, himself, wants to do so.
“There is growing sentiment inside Trump circles that the former president’s supporters want him to run again — and that he is eager to accept the challenge,” the outlet reports.
According to the Examiner, supporters of Trump are already getting ready for a Trump 2024 run by, among other things, posting Trump 2024 flags in their yards.
The outlet quotes one “key insider” as saying, “the energy is still out there. They want him back for another run.”
Trump, the Examiner reports “friends” as saying, is “eager to entertain another campaign,” but the outlet says that there is no guarantee that Trump will run just yet. That decision will, at least in part, depend on the outcome of the 2022 midterm elections.
Trump, though, according to insiders, “lost some weight, feels good, and is engaged in current issues.” Trump, in particular, is said to be keeping an eye on President Joe Biden and how he and his administration have been working to destroy Trump’s legacy.
Another insider said that Trump is “getting stronger and stronger as each day passes,” adding “the enthusiasm is not dwindling at all.”
The Examiner’s report comes after two of Trump’s top aides predicted that Trump 2024 will happen.
The first to do so was Trump’s former White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows. During a recent interview, Meadows revealed that Trump had been meeting with his “Cabinet members” to discuss “what does come next,” referring to both 2022 and 2024.
Meadows added: “I’m not authorized to speak on behalf of the president, but I can tell you this, Steve: We wouldn’t be meeting tonight if we weren’t making plans to move forward in a real way, with President Trump at the head of that ticket.”
More recently, Sean Spicer, who at one point was Trump’s White House press secretary, said that Trump’s “in” for 2024. “A couple of months ago I wasn’t sure,” Spicer added. “Now…there needs to be something that will keep him out.”
On top of this, polls have Trump the Republican frontrunner for 2024 and a recent report indicates that Trump has raised more campaign funds than any ex-president in U.S. history. So, all that’s left is for Trump to pull the trigger and announce his 2024 bid, and it appears that it is only a matter of time before he will.
