Coronavirus vaccine passports are no longer just an idea.
Breitbart reports that New York has become the first state to launch a “vaccine passport” program.
How it works:
USA Today released a report indicating how New York’s “vaccine passport,” which is being called the “Excelsior Pass,” works.
“Like an airline boarding pass, people will be able to prove their health status with a digital QR code – or ‘quick response’ machine-readable label,” the outlet reports.
USA Today continues, “They’ll need to download the Excelsior Pass app, enter their name, date of birth, zip code and answer a series of personal questions to confirm their identity. The data will come from the state’s vaccine registry and also will be linked to testing data from a number of pre-approved testing companies.
The outlet went on to try to sell the program as a superior alternative to carrying around a piece of paper proving that one has been vaccinated.
A statement from the embattled governor
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) put out a statement announcing the Excelsior Pass. In that statement, Cuomo tries to sell the program as a safe way to open New York back up.
“As we begin reopening the valves on different sectors of our economy, we are putting guidelines in place to ensure individuals attending events involving larger gatherings have tested negative for COVID or have been vaccinated to avoid an outbreak of the virus,” Cuomo said.
The Excelsior Pass, apparently, is a key to Cuomo’s plan.
“The Excelsior Pass will play a critical role in getting information to venues and sites in a secure and streamlined way, allowing us to fast-track the reopening of these businesses and getting us one step closer to reaching a new normal,” Cuomo said.
As many are pointing out, something like the Excelsior Pass is dangerously reminiscent of some of the measures that have been practiced in the past by communist countries, like the Soviet Union.
For months now, such an idea as this has been floated as a possibility, and now it is happening. It appears more and more likely that, at least in Democrat-run states, proof-of-vaccination will be required to participate in many aspects of life.
