Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser just came out in support of coronavirus vaccine mandates, Breitbart reports.
Fauci did so after the U.S. Food and Drug Association (FDA) on Monday announced that it fully approved Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine, meaning that the vaccine has graduated from its emergency use status.
“The time has come”
Faucis’ vaccine mandate endorsement came on Monday during an appearance on CNN.
“But the other thing that you just mentioned now is they’re going to give a lot of incentive and backing for a lot of institutions and organizations and places of employment to mandate, and that could be colleges, university, the military, organizations that employ a lot of people, some of the big corporations are going to say if you want to work for us in person, you’ve got to be there and get vaccinated,” Fauci said, adding, “I think that’s a good thing.”
The antecedent of “they” at the beginning of the above quote is unclear. Fauci before making that statement was referring to people who said they would get vaccinated after the FDA fully approves one of the coronavirus vaccines. So, it would appear that Fauci was referring to these people.
Fauci continued: “I know I respect people’s freedom, but when you’re talking about a public health crisis that we’ve been going through for well over a year and a half, the time has come. Enough is enough. We’ve just got to get people vaccinated.”
“Expect a lot of businesses now to fall in line”
Scott Gottlieb, a Pfizer board member and a former FDA commission, agreed with Fauci on Monday that vaccine mandates are more likely with the FDA’s approval of the Pfizer vaccine.
Gottlieb said that he has “talked to a lot of businesses that have said that they don’t feel comfortable mandating the vaccine until it gains full approval, that they feel they’ll be on stronger legal ground to mandate the vaccine.” Accordingly, he said that he “would expect a lot of businesses now to fall in line in terms of mandates.”
Gottlieb, though, opined that he doesn’t think there’s “going to be a rush of people who have been waiting for this binary moment in time who now are going to go out to CVS and Walgreens because it’s been FDA approved.” Fauci, on the other hand, expressed hope that this would happen.
Whether or not it will remains to be seen. Polls, though, have consistently shown that the majority of unvaccinated individuals don’t plan on getting vaccinated. And, if people think that the FDA was pressured into approving the vaccine just to try to get more people vaccinated, this won’t help matters.
So, the cards are now in place for more widespread vaccine mandates. We, of course, have already seen them in some states, such as California. We have also seen them at the federal level.
Fauci has claimed that, if more people do get vaccinated, the country could get “some good control in the spring” of 2022.
