Hawley: it’s time for Republicans to end dependence on big business

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) had a message for his Republican colleagues this week that many Republican voters will likely agree with.

According to Breitbart, Hawley is calling upon his fellow congressional Republicans to leave behind “mega-corporations” that do not share the interests of Republican voters.

“It’s time we listen to our voters”

Hawley’s comments came on Tuesday during an appearance on the Fox News Channel’s “Fox News Primetime.”

“It’s absolutely vital that the Republican Party as a party move away from its dependence on these mega-corporations, especially the multinational globalist ones, and listen actually to voters,” Hawley said. “I mean, this is, this should be a no-brainer, but it is absolutely vital.”

A recent report from Breitbart indicates that Republicans were able to fundraise millions, not from mega-corporations, but from grassroots campaigns during the first quarter of 2021. This resulted from many corporations parting ways with Republicans following the January 6th riot. But, it goes to show that congressional Republicans can still fundraise without mega-corporations.

Hawley, during the interview, went on to point out that Republican voters have been telling Republicans in Congress that they don’t share the interests of many of these mega-corporations for some time now, but that Congressional Republicans have not listened.

Accordingly, Hawley said, “it’s time for Republicans to get tough and to say that we are not taking orders from these corporations. We’re not going to base our policy around them. And it’s time we listen to our voters.”

“Bust up big tech”

Hawley additionally said that it is time for Republicans in Congress to “get tough on the corporations themselves.” And, to this end, Hawley has recently introduced a bill being referred to as the “Bust up big tech” Act.

“It’s past time to bust up Big Tech companies, restore competition, and give the power back to the American consumers,” Hawley said in a statement introducing the bill.

Breitbart reports that “the bill bans major companies that operate search engines, marketplaces, and exchanges from selling or promoting their own goods and services through said marketplaces and search engines.”

It also, according to Breitbart, would “prohibit companies that offer search engines, marketplaces, and exchanges from offering ‘hosting and internet infrastructure services’ for third parties.”

Hawley is quickly emerging as one of the leaders of the post-Trump Republican Party.
