Obama is making a return to the campaign trail

With less than two weeks to go before the 2020 presidential election, the campaign of Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden is calling in the big guns.

Fox News reports that former President Barack Obama, this week, will take some time to campaign for his former vice president.

It was only a matter of time

According to Breitbart, Obama will make an appearance on the Biden 2020 campaign trail this Wednesday with a stop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania, of course, is a key battleground state, whose 20 Electoral College votes Obama won in both 2008 and 2012. He will now look to give Biden the edge.

According to FiveThirtyEight, Biden is currently leading President Donald Trump in the state of Pennsylvania by more than five percentage points. President Trump did win the state in 2016, but only by less than a percentage point.

Both Barack and Michelle Obama have not been as active in Biden’s campaign as one might have expected. This will be Barack’s first in-person campaign event.

Timing

The announcement that Obama will campaign for Biden comes as the Biden campaign has hit a bit of a snag. The New York Post has published a report showing that Biden’s son Hunter looks to have used his father’s influence as vice president to make money overseas, with his father’s knowledge. The story keeps growing with more and more reports being published every day.

In addition, Fox News has put out a report on a memo that is going around the Biden campaign, urging members not to be complacent.

“[T]he reality is that this race is far closer than some of the punditry we’re seeing on Twitter and on TV would suggest,” Biden’s campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon wrote in the three page memo. “[E]ven the best polling can be wrong and that variables like turnout mean that in a number of critical swing states we are fundamentally tied.”

“We cannot become complacent because the very searing truth is that Donald Trump can still win this race,” Dillion wrote, “and every indication we have shows that this thing is going to come down to the wire.” Perhaps this explains Obama’s decision.

Looking ahead

If Biden does win the presidency, then we might end up with the Obama administration 2.0. According to a report by Breitbart, “A number of former Obama administration officials are reportedly being considered for jobs under the mantle of ‘diversity.'” This includes former national security advisor Susan Rice.

We’ll have to see how successful Obama is in Pennsylvania on Wednesday. President Trump and his campaign team will also be campaigning in the Keystone State on Tuesday.
