House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is now considering keeping unvaccinated Republicans from voting on the House floor.
Breitbart reports that Pelosi suggested on Thursday that unvaccinated House members ought to instead vote from the House gallery.
“I mean, we could come to a place where we could say, ‘If you don’t want to wear a mask and you don’t want to…if you’re not vaccinated, then don’t even come to the floor,'” Pelosi said. “We have facilities up above in the gallery where people can come to vote.”
Pelosi hastened to add, “we don’t want to deter anybody’s ability to exercise their constitutional duties.”
Pelosi has insisted on forcing House members to continue wearing facemasks despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) latest guidance, which allows fully vaccinated Americans to go maskless.
Some 30 House Republicans first attempted to force Pelosi to repeal the mandate by writing her a letter urging her to “follow the science.” Pelosi, however, didn’t back down, responding, when asked if she plans to lift the mask mandate, “are they all vaccinated?”
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) responded by drafting a resolution that would have, in effect, resulted in the House adopting the CDC’s latest guidance. McCarthy’s measure was put before the House this week for a vote, but that measure failed along party lines, 218 to 210.
Now, it does not appear that Pelosi has any intention to lift the mask mandate until the House is fully vaccinated. Currently, about 75 percent of House members have been fully vaccinated, while 100 percent have had the opportunity to be.
This week, several House Republicans, including Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IO), Brian Mast (R-FL), Beth Van Duyne (R-TX), and Ralph Norman (R-SC), decided to protest Pelosi’s mask mandate by not wearing facemasks.
Pelosi slapped each of them with a $500 fine. And, future fines for these individuals can now be up to $2,500.
While this was all going on, Pelosi, herself, was caught breaking her own rules.
The DailyWire reports: “Pelosi later attended an event at the White House where President Joe Biden signed a bill into law, and at the event she was spotted not wearing a mask while being in close proximity to others who were not wearing masks.”
