Unable to convict former President Donald Trump in either Senate impeachment trial, Congressional Democrats are now attacking Trump through legislation.
Breitbart reports that Nancy Pelosi’s House Democrats have introduced a piece of legislation that would prevent Trump’s name from ever being on any federal projects, buildings, statues, land, and the like.
The bill is being called the “No Glory for Hate Act.” It was introduced by Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) and thirteen Democratic co-sponsors including Reps. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Grace Napolitano (D-CA), Danny K. Davis (D-IL), André Carson (D-IN), Veronica Escobar (D-TX), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Jahana Hayes (D-CT), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Alan Lowenthal (D-CA), Nikema Williams (D-GA), and Judy Chu (D-CA).
The bill, in part, reads:
No no Federal funds may be used to — (1) create or display any symbol, monument, or statue commemorating any former President that has been twice impeached by the House of Rep resentatives on or before the date of enactment of this Act or has been convicted of a State or Federal crime relating to actions taken in an official capacity as President of the United States on Federal public land, including any highway, park, subway, Federal building, military installation, street, or other Federal property.
As you can see, the bill does not mention Trump by name, but instead says “any former President that has been twice impeached.” As we know, that description only applies to one man.
The bill goes on to prevent Trump’s “name, designate, or redesignate” from going on a federal building or land.
It prevents Trump from receiving any benefits other than Secret Service protection.
And, the bill even goes so far as to prevent Trump from being buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
The next best thing
Sanchez released a statement on the bill last month.
“For years, Donald Trump poured gasoline on lies, encouraging racism and hatred, then lit the match on January 6th,” she said. “A president who has been impeached twice does not deserve the honors bestowed on a former president. We should never glorify the hatred Donald Trump personified as President. This bill ensures that there is no glory for hate – not a building, statue, or even a park bench.”
She added: “Even though Trump is no longer in office, he should still be held accountable for his actions and the taxpayers should not foot the bill for his future actions. I can’t imagine sending students in Southern California — or anywhere in America — to a school named in honor of a traitorous president.”
Having failed twice to convict Trump, this is the best the Democrats can do at the moment. It is a disgusting attack on an ex-president that is driven by nothing more than hatred. Let’s make sure that hatred plays no part in our conservative politics.
