Report: Chuck Schumer plans to include pro-Critical Race Theory provision in defense bill

Breitbart reports that Sen. Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) is looking to include in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) a “radical bill” that, among other things, pushes Critical Race Theory (CRT).

This information comes by way of a memorandum, obtained by Breitbart, from Republicans in the U.S. House. The memorandum provides a warning about what Schumer is up to.

The “radical bill”

At issue here are two pieces of legislation: the NDAA and the United States Innovation and Competition Act (USICA), which was formerly called the Endless Frontier Act.

The reader is likely already familiar with the former. But, the goal of USICA is, at least ostensibly, to combat China’s aggression in various areas, including academia, business, technology, and more. The truth of the matter, though, is that USICA doesn’t really do so. Rather, as Breitbart puts it, USICA “just spends a whole bunch of money on special interests Democrats have.”

One of those special interests is CRT.

Breitbart reports:

. . . Schumer’s plan would spend millions of taxpayer dollars forcing the National Science Foundation to hire a “Chief Diversity Officer” and spend $5 million on things like “establishing a strategic plan for diverse participation” in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Schumer’s plan would also force the National Science Corps to establish a pilot program for things like “advancing equity.”

In addition to this, the House GOP’s memorandum identifies a large amount of “wasteful spending” in USICA.

What’s going on?

According to the House GOP’s memo, Schumer is trying to include USICA in the NDAA.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) House of Representatives has already passed its version of the NDAA, which does not include USICA. Schumer, however, has stalled the passage of the NDAA in the U.S. Senate.

USICA, on the other hand, has already been passed by Schumer’s Senate, whereas it has failed to make any progress in Pelosi’s House.

It is worth pointing out, here, that a number of “Republicans” helped Schumer and the Democrats get USICA through the Senate. The list includes Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Sens. Todd Young (R-IN), Roy Blunt (R-MO), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Susan Collins (R-ME), John Cornyn (R-TX), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Steve Daines (R-MT), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Lisa Murkowski (R-IN), Rob Portman (R-OH), Jim Risch (R-ID), Mitt Romney (R-UT), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Ben Sasse (R-NE), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Roger Wicker (R-MI).

Schumer is expected to begin a debate on the NDAA this week. Schumer said that USICA may be added. It remains to be seen whether these same Senate Republicans will support the NDAA with USICA now that it has been exposed to be the radical piece of legislation that it is.
