Another negative report about Vice President Kamala Harris has just been released.
According to this one, which is from Axios, Harris’s aides are concerned about Harris’s 2024 chances, given the vice president’s mishandling of various issues.
As Axios points out, President Joe Biden, at least at the moment, is expected to be the Democrats’ presidential nominee again in 2024. But, given Biden’s age, there is the possibility that he might not run again, and that could present a serious problem for the Democrats.
Axios reports that “many Democrats, including some current senior administration officials, are concerned [Harris] could not defeat whomever the Republican Party puts up — even if it were Donald Trump.”
The outlet goes on to quote “one Democratic operative” as saying, “most Democrats aren’t saying, ‘Oh, no, our heir apparent is ****ing up, what are we gonna do?’ It’s more that people think, ‘Oh, she’s ****ing up, maybe she shouldn’t be the heir apparent.'”
Axios, in its report, goes on to write that “some Democrats close to the White House are increasingly concerned about Harris’s handling of high-profile issues and political tone-deafness, and question her ability to maintain the coalition that Biden rode to the White House.”
This latest report follows one from Politico that stated that “Harris’ team is experiencing low morale, porous lines of communication, and diminished trust among aides and senior officials.”
In that report, most of the blame for this environment was placed on Tina Flournoy, Harris’s chief of staff. But, the outlet reports at least one insider as saying that the bad office environment emanates from the top, and the outlet points out that Harris has been accused of harboring a bad office environment in the past, as a U.S. Senator.
Following up on that report from Politico, Axios writes, “several administration officials used “****show” when describing Harris’ office, and contrast her operation with disciplined, virtually leakproof Biden aides.”
The outlet goes on to report:
Some Biden officials view the Harris operation as poorly-managed and staffed with people who don’t have long-term relationships with her. They feel she’s gotten bad advice from her press and communications shop and think it’s telling that she’s already lost two advance aides and a digital director.
What of it?
Giving the timing of the reports, it seems pretty clear that things likely boiled over as a result of Harris’s recent trip to the southern border, a trip she put off for months despite the bipartisan criticism that she received in response.
There have been individuals in the Biden/Harris administration who have pushed back on these reports from Politico and Axios. One thing that they can’t dispute, however, is Harris’s chances as a 2024 candidate. Harris wasn’t even close to popular as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020, and there is nothing to suggest that the situation has changed since then.
