Report: the U.S. saw nearly 2 million illegal alien encounters during Fiscal Year 2021

In Fiscal Year 2021, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had nearly 2 million illegal alien encounters, Breitbart reports

To be clear, these numbers are not official yet, but, according to Breitbart, they soon will be. The outlet says that it got this information from “a highly placed source operating under the umbrella of the Department of Homeland Security [DHS].” And, the outlet says that its Texas affiliate got to review a document from the agency.

The numbers

According to Breitbart’s sources, during the 2021 fiscal year, which just ended on September 30th, the CBP had almost 1.96 million illegal alien encounters. This is the total figure nationwide, not just the encounters along the U.S.-Mexico border.

This figure, 1.96 million, represents a 202 percent increase from Fiscal Year 2020, which saw about 647,000 illegal alien encounters.

Of the 1.96 million encounters, roughly 1.3 million were of single adult migrants. That’s way more than double 2020’s number, which was 537,000.

In addition to the 1.3 million adult migrants, there were about 484,000 family units that the CBP encountered during Fiscal Year 2021. That’s a 545 percent increase from 2020.

And, in Fiscal Year 2021, there were 148,000 encounters with unaccompanied minors, which, again, is a significant increase from Fiscal Year 2020, which only saw 34,000 such encounters.

A record

Breitbart separately has reported that Fiscal Year 2021 is expected to set the record for the highest number of illegal alien apprehensions.

Preliminary reports indicate that the CPB made 1.66 million illegal apprehensions during Fiscal Year 2021. That’s the most since the CPB starting keeping track of apprehensions almost a century ago. The previous record was set during Fiscal Year 2000, which saw some 1.64 million illegal alien apprehensions.

Background

Spurring this surge in illegal immigration has been the presidency of Joe Biden. Illegal aliens already started heading towards America in anticipation of Biden’s presidency, and, once he took office and undid former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, the surge commenced.

The surge has continued almost ceaselessly during Biden’s first year as president, which is how we got to almost 2 million illegal alien encounters.

There are already signs that Fiscal Year 2022 might end up being even worse than Fiscal Year 2021. Central American officials are warning of a significant surge during the final three calendar months of 2021.
