A new report from the Daily Mail appears to show that Vice President Kamala Harris has recently been distancing herself from President Joe Biden.
This, however, is being disputed by the White House, as we will see.
A look at Harris’s schedule
Following Biden’s inauguration, in January, Harris and Biden participated in a number of events together. In the remainder of January, they participated in 20 events together; in February 38; and, in March, another 38.
It ought to be noted that this includes both private and public events. If one looks at just the public events that they participated in together, there were 9 in January, 18 in February, and 13 in March.
After March, the dropoff began. Over the next five months, from April to August, the most public and private events that Biden and Harris participated in together was 23 in July. June only saw 12. And, if one excludes private events, then the high was April with 10 and the low was May and June with 5 each.
Then, in September, there were only 8 appearances together, and, in October, only 7. And, here, if you factor out the private appearances, you are left with only 1 public appearance in September and 1 in October.
To reiterate, Biden and Harris only made one public appearance together in each of September and October after making 18 in February.
Distancing herself from Biden, if she is indeed doing that, would appear to be a smart move for Harris, or any politician for that matter.
Biden is currently facing the southern border crisis, the economic crisis, the Afghanistan crisis, and the list goes on. He hasn’t even been able to solve the one crisis that he promised to as a presidential candidate – the coronavirus pandemic. And, the result for Biden has been abysmal polling, with his latest average approval rating at 42.3 percent.
So, it would be smart for Harris to distance herself from Biden. The White House, however, claims that this is not what Harris is doing. An official claims that Biden and Harris frequently hold meetings together and that the two meet for lunch once a week.
And, a spokesperson for Harris has also disputed that the vice president is distancing herself from Biden, saying:
The Vice President keeps a busy schedule doing the work of the Administration and always in support of the President. Sometimes those events are together, other times apart, sometimes she is on the road amplifying the agenda of the Administration and highlighting the importance of Build Back Better.
Are you buying these rationalizations? We’re not.
